Mugs
My latest series of mugs have been an experiment with angles, various textures, and decorative patterns. I wanted to create a more contemporary form with clean lines that is comfortable in the hand. Texture accentuates the lines and creates visual movement while providing a tactile element. Underglaze transfers are utilized to add unique patterns and design motifs.
The result of this process brought back fond memories of rehabbing an older home. The outer appearance of a house may look contemporary, but the foundation and what lies beneath reveals time, history, and patina. The happy discoveries of peeling back the layers to reveal the timeless and beautiful artisan work from the past.
